Amazon.com Review This is the blender of the future. It performs all the traditional blending tasks (crushing ice for margaritas, thinning ice cream) plus it can be used like a food processor (mincing garlic, pureeing peppers). The wide jar is rounder and squatter than old-style blenders, which makes it easier to reach in and scrape the sides (when the blender is off!). To reduce splatters of strawberry daiquiri, the Step Start feature starts blending slowly, then picks up to the chosen speed. This blender also comes with a booklet containing 75 recipes--my favorite is the Frosty Chocolate Raspberry Latte. --Dana Van Nest Editor's Choice:KitchenAid's five-speed blender has a number of functions that set it above the crowd as our choice for best blender under $100. It starts with the five speed settings and the pulse function, which works at any of the speeds--a really nice touch. The blender's 40-ounce glass jar has a squat shape, making it more manageable than taller blenders, and comes completely apart.

Quality not as expected November 28, 2008 S. E. Barrett, MD (Olympia, Washington) Notice that they are also selling a coupling part. I expected Kitchenaid to be of good quality and last a long time, like my mother's stand mixer. I haven't used my blender very much, although I did crush small amounts of ice on its pulse mode. Anyway the coupling unit broke off 4 of its 6 teeth and now I'm afraid to use it. Fortunately they sell the part, but I will have to get someone else to replace it since I have arthritic hands. I bought a Kitchenaid toaster at the same time and it also broke within 2 years of use.
good investment July 25, 2008 Gretchen Collier (beatsville, LA) I bought this nearly two years ago through amazon as a refurbished unit. This was after having two lesser models where the drive mechanism on the bottom simply melted. I found this and didnt think there was really anything to lose. When I ordered it I received it in a very timely manner, and you wouldn't even know that it was refurbished. It has lasted me well. I have thrown everything from mixed drinks, smoothies, crushing ice, making gazpacho, even bread crumbs- and it has handled everything gracefully and with ease. I love the fact that this is not a huge capacity, but has more than enough. I also like the fact that the lid on this is slightly flexible and acts almost like a gasket more than a lid. There is also the fact that the buttons that control it are smooth surface so they wipe off easily. One thing. My husband dropped the jar on in and smashed it to bits. With alot of other ones this would have resulted in trashing the whole thing and getting a new one because it would be hopeless to try to find parts. So at midnight in a saturday I was right back here on amazon and ordered a replacement jar. I know that if anything breaks other than the actual motor, I can get it replaced without having to buy a whole new unit. Love it! This was the first item I ever bought by kitchenaid, and I have not been disappointed. I'd recommend refurbished if you can find it- it's a great value for the same quality.
