Product Description
Capresso.01 Ultima Semi-automatic Coffee Maker and Espresso Cappuccino Machine - Capresso 121

Amazon.com Review
By eliminating the usual fuss and mess, this 1,200-watt machine makes it easy to brew espresso and make cappuccinos and lattes at home or in the office. It's semiautomatic because all that's required is to fill the water tank, place ground coffee into a receptacle, and pull a lever. Within seconds coffee flows from the double spout, which adjusts for different cup heights, into one or two cups. No tamping is required because the machine tamps the coffee precisely and automatically. Nor is it necessary to clean used coffee grounds out of a messy filter holder, because there is no filter holder, and the machine automatically discards grounds into a waste tray. The tray also catches overflows, and a light shows when it needs emptying.

For steaming and frothing milk to make cappuccinos, lattes, and hot chocolates and for delivering hot water for tea, there's a wand that rotates out to fit inside a pitcher or cup. The coffee receptacle accepts 7 to 15 grams (one or two fillings of the included scoop), and the powerful pump supplies enough hot water each time to fill cups from 1-1/2 ounces to 12 ounces, which means it will make a big mug of regular coffee as well as an espresso. The 53-ounce water tank is transparent for water-level monitoring. Water heats quickly thanks to the 1,200-watt heating coil, and a thermostat light shows when the water is hottest. The machine has internal storage for the power cord and comes with clear instructions, drink recipes, and a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

4 out of 5 stars This machine will last!   March 9, 2010
Ina G. Thurman (Southern Cal)
I purchased this machine THREE YEARS AGO. It works as well now as it did when I purchased it. Friends and family love the lattes I make with this, and pretty much demand them when they come over! Which I actually like. It's very consistent, easy to clean, and obviously durable. By now I'm surely saving big bucks over buying at Starbucks. I recommend buying some extra steamer nozzles right away so you're not ever waiting on the cleaning process to get that first cup going. Also, I found a really nice accessory kit at Starbucks that includes a steaming jug, two shot glasses, and a thermometer, which has helped enormously. The machine really has exceeded my expectations. (Oh, I gave it 4/5 because the coffee comes out on the cooler side. I sometimes heat up the espresso for 20 seconds in the micro.)

1 out of 5 stars Don't waste a dollar on this!!!   March 7, 2010

This machine works great for about 3 months, then the frother simply boils the milk from that point on. I have sent the machine back three times and each time it only froths for about a good month then back to boiling the milk. I've tried cleaning the system, cleaning thoroughly after each use and still the same boiled milk! If anyone knows of a fix let me know because Capresso sure doesn't!

Convenient design and easy to use. Coffee temperature unpredictable and often less than hot. Great crema and wonderful taste when temperature right. Stopped working today, almost exactly 2 years since I purchased it. Liked it but not enough to pay the minimum $80 that Capresso asks for out-of-warranty repairs and not impressed enough by the durability to replace it with identical model.

This was a gift for my husband and I don't drink coffee, so I can't report first hand, but he has been very happy with the espresso and capuccino he's made. We wanted a machine where he could use the brand of coffee/espresso he likes rather than have to use a premeasured pod, and this works easily in every way. He uses it every day - so it works well and is easy now that he understands how it works. It's a little large on the countertop, but that's what it takes for the machine it is.

5 out of 5 stars Espresso the way I like it   February 12, 2010
Mandrake (Houston TX USA)
This machine is one I have used and enjoyed for almost 10 years. I have one for my home and one for my office and I use both almost daily. The machine, when mastered (I did it in an hour), provides excellent espresso. I've also made capuccino for others(not to my taste). Occasionally, it's so easy to use that it triggers absentmindedness (all those years as a professor), and I forget to dump the grounds catcher, and that leads to a considerable mess. (Possible solution: don't be a professor.) I also sometimes forget to clean the carousel every day or two, and that hurts performance. It's probably not as easy to use as the pod machines. It does enable me to make amazingly good espresso, particularly when I remember to empty the grounds catcher and rinse off the carousel. The carousel on my first machine developed a problem that required replacement, and that's very expensive. I chose to get a new machine instead. So this is now the third I've owned. Did I mention that it lets even me make very good espresso?
