A Gift from the Author! January 1, 2009 Sherri (SHENANDOAH VALLEY, VA) Have you ever loved a book series so much that you hated finishing the last book? Did you feel like you were leaving folks you'd sort of grown attached to? I finished reading The Mitford Years series by Jan Karon and felt just this way! Then I stumbled upon the Mitford Cookbook at our public library. Unfortunately, they would not let me renew it a fourth time because someone came along and put a Hold on it! Since then, however, I have receive it as a gift - and have thoroughly enjoyed revisiting "old friends" through the book excerpts intertwined with all those recipes for the down-home dishes mentioned in the novels! Also, in the cookbook, the author has shared her own preferences, family memories & recipes. Jan Karon gave us a very sweet gift in putting this cookbook together!
Read At the Table December 30, 2008 Anne (Texas) I thoroughly enjoy reading the excerpts from the Mitford books which reference the dish and precede the recipes. I read a few pages at a time while sitting at the breakfast or lunch table; moreover my husband lets me read to him, allowing me to share something of interest to me (the excerpts) and of interest to him (a new recipe). So far I have tried only Andrew's real hot cocoa recipe -- very sweet but delicious. Tonight we will try Velma's chili. This book will make a nice gift for a friend/Mitford reader, but I will have to purchase another since I will not be able to give mine away.
beautiful book, delicious recipes December 30, 2008 S. Kane (michigan USA) This is a really attractive and beautifully written book, much more than a "regular" cookbook. I've tried several of the recipes and they were all perfect. Jan's "Pot of Beans" is a new staple in our house and Puny's Cheesecake was so easy and delicious at our family Christmas party. I highly recommend this book, and get an extra one because you will definitely want to share it as a gift to someone special.
Excellent December 21, 2008 Plain Jane (Tx.) I would recommend this cookbook to anyone. It is very nice! I received it so quickly after ordering! Thank you
Fun! November 12, 2008 Vivian Schrupp (Roseville, CA) If you've read the Mitford Series, you will want this book. Even if you don't try any of the recipes, it's a fun book to read.
