Product Description
At last! This special cookbook puts flavor and choice back on the menu for people with diabetes and their families
Betty Crocker, America's most trusted friend in the kitchen, has teamed up with the International Diabetes Center (IDC)--one of the leading medical centers--to create an indispensable source of easy-to-make recipes and up-to-the-minute food and nutrition information for the growing numbers of people who have diabetes, more than 15 million of them.
Here is the first cookbook to include recipes featuring Carbohydrate Choices--the new, simplified approach to meal planning recommended by the American Diabetes Association. For people who find diet exchanges too hard, too limiting or too much work, this new method is a real breakthrough. Each of the book's 140 recipes shows the number of Carbohydrate Choices per serving, so that planning the rest of the meal is easy. From Old-Time Beef and Vegetable Stew to Creamy Vanilla-Caramel Cheesecake, the recipes are made with everyday ingredients, including sugar. No food groups or ingredients are left out, so there's no need for anyone to feel deprived or restricted to a special diet. Food exchanges are also included, making it easy for those who still count calories.
Betty Crocker's Diabetes Cookbook is also packed with expert medical and nutrition tips from Dr. Richard Bergenstal, an endocrinologist and diabetes doctor, and two registered nurses--invaluable for the newly diagnosed as well as for those who have been coping with diabetes for years. Throughout the book, real-life advice from people who have diabetes offers inspiration and great ideas on dealing with this chronic disease. When it comes to eating and living with diabetes, people need guidance and advice they can trust.

5 out of 5 stars Great starter cookbook for newly diagnosed diabetic!   November 18, 2008
Randall R. Mcclintock (Nashville, TN)
Wonderful hardcover cookbook. Very useful information not found in any of the other diabetic cookbooks. Great recipes and I really like the illustrations. We're making the caramel cheesecake for Thanksgiving. Easy 1,2,3 system to track carb levels.

4 out of 5 stars Good for a teen   November 17, 2008

This proved to be a good choice for a teen whose mother had recently been diagnosed as diabetic. It got used.

5 out of 5 stars Love this book!   November 17, 2008

I have several diabetic cookbooks and this is my favorite. I love the double berry muffins! My husband is thrilled with his new diabetic options. Easy to follow and well organized.

2 out of 5 stars Too many carbs for me!   November 10, 2008
Richard M. Trump (Ocean Park, WA USA)
The recipes in this book might be fine for some people, but the majority do not work for me. I do best on a fairly low carbohydrate diet. Plus most of the carbs in these recipes are simple starches and sugars. Lots of pasta, potatoes, sugar, white flour; lots of sweet corn, sweet potatoes. Basically all the stuff my physician told me to avoid. And all stuff that shoots my blood sugar way up. So while the recipes are tasty I really have to pick out the few I can eat.

Also annoying is the exclusion of carbohydrate counts. Instead we get the old exchange system which I don't think is used so much any more.

If you can eat this kind of food then you will probably find this a tasty and useful book. Just be sure to test after some of these meals, as some of them put my blood sugar way up.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!   October 31, 2008
Janet Hibbin (Moose Jaw Canada)
Just finding out I have type 2 diabetes I wanted to do the 'right' thing. I looked at lots of different books but decided on the Betty Crockers Diabetes Cookbook. It is full of really helpfull information on diabetes as well as all the great recipies. Very colourful and shows that you can still enjoy lots of good food!
100% pleased with the book.
