5 out of 5 stars Awesome history!   December 21, 2008
Carol Palmer (Parishville, NY)
This is a very entertianing, informative little book. I got it for my nephew who is a budding cook. He was thrilled to learn how the "old folks" did things and had a wonderful time trying out the recipes. He was especially entertained by the measurements and had to ask his Auntie how big a walnut was! I would recommend this book for any cook but particularly for young cooks just starting out. It brings a great piece of history into the present.

5 out of 5 stars Smiles and chuckles for the Great Old--Timey Cooks   June 21, 2008

The small 72 page book is full of old time wisdom and recipes. Pictures from the past combined with stories of the simple life will bring smiles to a mundane day. Although I'm not as old as the people in the book, somethings never change. I remember our next door neighbour kill a chicken on a Saturday so they could have it for Sunday dinner. I've had the pleasure of scrubbing clothes on a scrub board and milk a goat. I've known people just like the ones in the book; it brings back memories of long ago.

This small book is sure to bring a chuckle or two to some old timers and young people alike.
