Total rubbish, what a mess! July 21, 2008 Gary Loomis as with most of the other 1 star reviews I had the same issue. First use it fried fine then when it came time to drain it, half went the reservoir, the rest went all over the counter. STAY AWAY!
Loved it out of the box! June 18, 2008 GVP (Cameron Park, CA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
We used the deep fryer for the first time for fries on Father's Day to go with Dad's grilled ribs. It worked great. We read the manual and followed it carefully after reading several reviews about overflow. We had no problem. The tip to fry the french fries 2x at different temps is well founded. It takes longer but it's worth it. Cleanup was a breeze. Looking forward to fried zucchini as soon as my garden crop is ready.
nice product June 6, 2008 D. Lucas (KY) This is an awesome deep fryer with the exception of one thing. There is a lot of condensation build up while cooking and when you remove the lid and the water hits the hot oil, it will pop and splatter a little. Not enough to cause any problems though. I read alot of other reviews that said the storage container leaked while sitting overnight or while the oil is cooling down. I have never had this problem as long as you keep it on a level surface. Very nice product. Top of the line in deep fryers.
I can't wait to use it. June 5, 2008 Bigplay (Denver CO) Me and My wife were so excited to get this fryer because of the features. We just didn't expect it to be defective right out of the box and have to pay for shipping to get it fixed and we still are waiting to use it. So my advise is if you are going to buy this product buy it from a store not online so you can return it without being charged for shipping. So buyer beware of the crappy cust. service from t-fal.
The housing needs work... May 20, 2008 SJS (TN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm not going into the nitnoidal details as to the capabilities, capacities, etc of this fryer -- there are plenty of reviews that do that already. The primary purpose of this review is to inform about this fryer's external housing.
Where as the internal fryer bowl is of a high quality, heavy guage stainless steel, the external housing is not. It is in fact a very flimsy (easy to bend/deform) part manufactured from low grade, light guage stainless. I've always been taught that magnets do not stick to high quality stainless steel - If you need a place to post your magnets from that last trip to Disney this fryer will do.
Due to the flimsy material of the housing you should be careful with how you handle it when it is apart. Fully assembled you need not worry - the structure supports itself properly. The trouble comes when the fryer is disassembled for cleaning - the housing is easy to bend, deform. I find that it is best to continue to handle the external housing by the plastic parts (the handles and the back, thermal control unit mount) than from anywhere else. Believe it or not, these parts are more solid than the the metal.
As for throwing the whole thing in the dishwasher when you're done - this is a nice feature and certainly makes clean up easier. However, I've noticed that the silver finish has been washed off of the front, 'oil control' switch (which is plastic) after only 3 washes in the dishwasher. I now only wash the housing by hand though it must be done carefully so as not to damage it (see paragraph above). Also, whether washing by hand or machine, be sure to dry the housing thoroughly by hand. I do not recommend exposing it to moisture for longer than needed because it is a low grade stainless. Stainless steel is not 'rust proof,' it is 'rust resistant' and the lower the grade of stainless, the less 'rust resistant' it is.
So why, after all of the above do I still give it 4 stars? Because other than the cheap quality of the housing this is a great fryer. I have not experienced any of the oil leaks that some others have reported (though I always place the fryer on a cookie sheet as a precaution). What really sets this fryer apart from the rest is what takes place after you cook. It is the easiest fryer to clean up - oil self drains/filters into a self contained, oil resevoir. Pull out the resevoir, put it somewhere dark and cool, throw most of the fryer into the washer, rinse off the heating element, wash/wipe the housing and you're done.
