Amazon.com Product Description
With 475 watts of power and a 5-quart bowl capacity, you can be assured that this refurbished KitchenAid Professional 5 Plus stand mixer tackles big jobs. This factory-reconditioned machine prepares food for a crowd and ably handles tough mixes. Its body features durable die-cast metal construction and offers a direct-drive transmission and all-metal gears. The sturdy lifting mechanism uses a metal arm and steel lever to effortlessly raise an ingredient-filled bowl. The bowl itself features stainless steel construction, two pins to attach to the lifting arm, and an ergonomically designed handle for comfort during use.

Ten speeds allow for everything from whipping egg whites to slow churning bread dough and the Soft-Start feature keeps power in check to prevent splashing and flour clouds. A unique mixing action spins the beater clockwise while the shaft spins counter clockwise; this results in an even blend. As a safety measure, the motor stops in the event of an obstruction or overloading. An integrated hub cover with hinge flips up to allow easy installation of attachments. A flat beater comes with purchase but additional pieces including a wire whip, dough hook, citrus juicer, and sausage stuffer can be purchased separately. The machine measures 16-1/2 by 12 by 14 inches. Pop the bowl and beater in the dishwasher for cleaning and wipe the main body with a warm damp cloth.

What's in the Box

5 out of 5 stars So far, it's a wonderful machine!   August 15, 2008

I've had this lovely stand mixer for about a year now, and I've had no problems with it at all. It does the job, it doesn't move around even with lots of dough on high speed. And I love the lift mechanism, I prefer it to the artisan series.

I have both, but the artisan one has been in storage in another state for several years, and when I saw this one for such a great price ($50 less than now offered!), I had to fulfill my need for a proper mixer.

When the mixer is running at really high speed, yes, there is the noise of the thing working. Better it than me. And it's not an unpleasant sound; it is a machine doing what it was made to do.

I look forward to many, many years of great use and I recommend it to anyone.

2 out of 5 stars Kitchen Aid Quality has gone down   August 15, 2008

The biggest dissapointment was the paddle, beater, and hook that came with this. NOT the same quality as it used to be- in fact these state "not dishwasher safe, may discolor". They have to be joking, everything should be made dishwasher safe in this day and age.

So not caring if mine "dicolored" I washed them in the dishwasher anyway, and let me say discoloring will be the least of your problems. They got this weird white dust all over them, like rust but white. They are light weight and feel cheap, which is what they are.

Also they really do not mix anything in from the bottom of the bowl and I know I had the bowl in properly. My mom's Kitchen Aid appears to have come from a different company as the quality is 1000x better. I have dreamt about getting my first Kitchen Aid for so long, and this was a huge dissapointment.

5 out of 5 stars Great mixer - and incredible price   August 9, 2008

KitchenAid mixers are so well-built that it's hard to imagine paying full price when a reconditioned option is available. It came with all the attachments and would be impossible to tell from brand new. Only difference is that the warranty is limited.

5 out of 5 stars Sometimes a refurb bites you...   June 21, 2008

I bought one of these mixers fully aware of the fact that I was getting a refurbished unit that may not be perfect. Sure enough after a couple of months of pretty light use the speed control went out on my unit. It didn't matter what power level I set the thing to, the second I turned it on it would ramp up to its top speed and shut itself down after exceeding the normal top speed.

So I called up KitchenAid customer support - after hearing my problem and verifying that I was under warranty they sent me out another refurbished unit. Once I got that one I threw the broken one in the box and slapped the return lable on it, and away it went. Extremely painless.

As for the capabilities of the unit I will admit that I have not done everything that it's capable of yet (for instance, I have not made bread with the dough hook) but everything that I have done with it has been great - cookies, cakes, whipped cream, mashed potatoes, etc. Plenty of power, solid performance, quality attachments, etc.

Bottom line: this item is refurbished so watch out, it might not be 100 percent fixed - but KitchenAid will take care of you if you're unlucky.

5 out of 5 stars Best mixer ever!   August 11, 2007

We absolutely love our KitchenAid Mixer. I was a little leary of purchasing a factory-reconditioned product - but it was in perfect shape. This mixer truly gets the job done quickly and is so easy to use and clean.
