Amazon.com Review Vacuum sealing keeps food fresh and flavorful three to five times longer than traditional storage methods by removing all air, the principal cause of food spoilage. FoodSaver's patented VacLoc bags, which work with this kit, are safe for boiling, microwaving, freezing, and refrigerating, so a sealed bag of frozen veggies can just be dropped into a pot of boiling water. The bags also can be washed and reused, are dishwasher safe, and are recyclable. The Vac 300 is easy to use. Put food in the bag, place the open end of the bag into the vacuum channel, close the lid, and press down. Meat and chicken are now safe for up to three years and fish up to two years in the freezer. Lettuce can stay crisp for weeks instead of a few days. You can even create your own frozen dinners (much yummier than store-bought!) by vacuum packaging leftovers right on the plate. --Doree Armstrong

Stopped working after about 15 uses. May 21, 2007 Brian (Austin, TX United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This item works by suctioning the air of the bag, sensing when it has suctioned out enough air, then sealing the bag. After about 15 uses, the pressure sensor stopped working. So it would suction all the air out of the bag but never seal it.

The FoodSaver Vac works great and is also fun to use. I love it. I don't throw away as much food any more. Bought one for a friend and he uses it a lot. Great for left overs, meat, cheese, herbs, etc.

I have owned two of these. The first one was a more expensive model that didn't last long. This one was far less expensive, and works just as well, and has held up over time. It's great for those of us who like to shop in bulk.

I bought this as a gift for my mom, she loves it. She has her own vegetable garden and is always putting things in the freezer. This helps keep her items fresh.
a real money saver January 10, 2007 Marc T. Lacomb (Southington, CT USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The FoodSaver Vac 300 is a real money saver if you buy food in larger quantity and then seperate it for individual meal size portions. It allows you to keep foods from getting freezer burn. The bag material is a little pricey but is made up when you consider what you can do with it.
