Cracked! December 26, 2008 Jay J. Newman I purchased two of these items. Both of them cracked the second time that I used them.
WARNING, WARNING Faulty Design Do Not Purchase September 15, 2008 William Brummett (USA) UPDATE to below: I called FoodSaver at 1-877-777-8042, spoke to a very nice rep, explained my problem and they are sending a free replacement because it was still under warranty. I expected a runaround but didn't get one and can't say how much I appreciated her response. There still may be a design problem (I'll soon know) but don't be afraid to call the company ASAP.
My problem: I purchased the 2 quart "rectangular" container about 3 weeks ago along with several small and large "round" containers. None subjected to microwave, freezer, dishwasher or dropped. The ROUND containers appear good after 3 weeks of slight use But the 2 quart rectangular container has failed after very slight use (mostly just setting around empty with a vacuum. On the inside of the unit the are vertical fracture cracks at the corners and on the flat side under the lid latch some very nasty looking curved fracture lines (4 lines appx 3/4") that are getting longer. You can feel the cracks on the inside with your fingernail. They have not reached the outside (yet) and vacuum is still held but it's just a matter of time before rupture. There is absolutely a design flaw in the rectangular containers. The round containers and the small sandwich (flexible) containers are fine (so far). DO NOT BUY THE "RECTANGULAR" RIDGED CONTAINER. The cover seems fine (so far), the problem is the bottom container is going to crack (implode) open. I'll vacuum it and put it in a safe place waiting for total failure. THIS SPECIFIC STYLE IS JUNK and should be removed from the market. After researching internet complaints I have a feeling Tilia/Foodsaver knows this.
useful foodsaver item February 13, 2008 John Murdock The biggest gripe is that for such a large space, the grater area is too small for each grating size. A better option would be to have different inserts.
These sometimes develop cracks for no reason February 7, 2008 Ms. Opinionated (Chestertown, MD USA) I just wanted to alert users of the foodsaver canisters that two of mine while quite new developed a crack in the bottom for no reason. Foodsaver's customer service said this sometimes happens and willingly replaced the defective ones, so if you have this problem and are sure the cracks had nothing to do with your using it improperly, don't hesitate to call them.
2 QUART CANISTER January 18, 2008 JAMES R. MCINTYRE THIS IS A GREAT PRODUCT. BEING ABLE TO USE A CONTAINER THIS LARGE THAT STAYS AIR TIGHT TO KEEP THE FOOD FRESH IS GREAT. I REALLY ENJOY MY FOODSAVER AND WILL CERTAINLY BUY MORE PRODUCTS SUCH AS THIS FOR IT.
