Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Micom Fuzzy Rice Cooker works via a computerized, Fuzzy Logic Temperature Control System to produce perfectly cooked rice. The Keep-Warm cycle ensures your rice stays fresh tasting for extended periods before serving. Cook up to 5.5 cups of rice. The LCD timer is easy to use, and the inner cooking pot has a durable nonstick coating so cleanup is quick and easy. Features a retractable cord to keep your countertops looking neat, plus a handle, so you can serve right at the table or easily transport it to dinner parties. Comes with a spatula, spatula holder and measuring cup. Note: Although you can use this cooker to prepare brown rice, an additional step is involved. You must first soak the brown rice in water before cooking, at least four hours or overnight for best results.

Amazon.com Review
This rice cooker cooks up to 5-1/2 cups (enough to feed five to ten people or more) of a variety of rices--white, sweet, porridge, and mixed--for accompanying stir-fries, stuffing peppers, or rolling sushi. The LCD screen is easy to read and the push-button controls are simple to program once you've mastered them. After loading your rice and water into the inner pan and choosing the type of rice you are making from the menu, the microcomputerized "Fuzzy logic" temperature control system calculates the exact cooking time (usually between 45 and 70 minutes) and programs it for you. The Fuzzy microchip combined with the unit's spherical heating system, which cooks on all sides of the inner pan, ensure perfect rice every time without burning or overcooking. You can also set the timer manually in 30-minute increments for cooking times of up to 13 hours. When cooking is complete, the cooker beeps eight times and automatically shifts into a Keep Warm mode, which keeps rice warm for up to 12 hours after cooking is complete. An Extended Keep Warm function warms rice for up to 8 hours at a lower temperature and reduces the chance of rice drying out or becoming discolored or odorous. If rice is still not eaten by then, there is another opportunity to give it a warmup of between 5 and 15 minutes using the Reheat key.

The inner pan has a nonstick coating for easy cleaning and the lid's stainless-steel underside also wipes clean much effort. The rice cooker has a plastic handle for transporting it from cabinet to counter and a retractable cord for easy storage. This appliance comes with a spatula and spatula holder and is covered by a limited 1-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

3 out of 5 stars works ok but hard to clean   November 24, 2008
bh (Western NY, USA)
I got this rice cooker brand new and have been using it since 8/2002. My family and I use it 1-2 times a day, every day.

Pros:
-White rice option works great.
-Cute design.
-Time pre-set option.
-Retractable electrical cord.

Cons:
-Inner lid can't be removed, which makes it hard to clean. With regular use and/or over time, fluid/food accumulates and the fact that the outer and inner lids aren't removable, means having to tilt the whole unit upside down while slowly rinsing. This is while avoiding water in other parts of machine.
-Porridge option makes porridge that's too thick, very much the consistency of rice pudding, no matter how much extra water you put or if you pre-soak the rice. I was hoping for more-liquidy porridge.
-Expensive.

Overall, if I had to choose again, I would not go with this item. My experience with this product definitely makes me think twice about buying any Zojirushi product. I would rather go with a Tiger rice cooker next time.

3 out of 5 stars It's served us well for 3 years   August 17, 2008

This is the particular model that we own among the hundreds of rice makers out there. It's worked well and I agree with the other reviewers that it wasn't easy to get it to work the first few times, but overall it's served us well.

The reason we need to replace it is that now the cover won't stay firmly shut when it's cooking. We used to like the ability to start the rice cooking whenever we wanted to and it would keep it warm and properly moist for a day or two. Now we have to use the cooking timer so that it starts cooking an hour or two before we get up the next day; it will only keep the rice moist for a couple of hours since the cover isn't tight anymore and it begins to dry out after that.

At its current price I'd say it's almost worth buying the same model again; the (possibly) better-built ones are way more expensive. I wouldn't recommend buying the el cheapo ones--the cooking quality is almost at the campsite level and you won't get the features like being able to keep the cooked rice moist and firm for much longer than an hour (!).

I'll probably get this model again or something similar. Zojirushi is a good maker of these kinds of products, at reasonable prices.

5 out of 5 stars Rice machine? More like an advanced life form.   June 5, 2008

While I've only owned it for a short time, I think this rice maker is dynamite. I've made both white and brown rice in it and it's come out as fluffy as a cloud. Be careful when you open it though. You might just drool on yourself as the aroma fills your mind with anticipation........... For 130 clams, it better be good;-)

Very compact and nice look. Three menu functions, cooking/quick/congee and timer. Enough for everyday using.
