Zojirushi Rice Cooker July 24, 2008 Larry Carlson (Redmond, WA) The Zoirushi is everything you would want in a Rice Cooker. The different products come out excellent every time. I would highly recommend this to anyone.
Perfect Rice Everytime! July 7, 2008 Beka (Stockton, CA United States) This rice cooker is very easy to use. We use it on a regular basis to cook white rice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I typically use either the regular white rice setting or the "quick cook" and both results turn out delicious.
A couple of tips when selecting a Zojirushi: 1) The 5-cups they refer to are their special measuring cups. This model did end up being rather small. Perfect for daily and family uses, but if you needed rice for a party you'll want a bigger model. 2) Cooking rice will take longer than the 15 minutes it took on the stove top. It'll take between 20 - 50 minutes depending on the setting, but worth it. :-)
Warning - Aluminum Inner Lid! July 5, 2008 C. Far (Pt. Richmond, CA) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
After reading all the reviews on fuzzy rice cookers, I was very excited to order the Zojirushi NS TGC10 model. When I recieved it, I was dismayed to see that the detachable inner lid was made of aluminum! It's my understanding that it's very unhealthy to cook foods in direct contact with aluminum. I called the seller who told me that all of the Chinese-made fuzzy logic models are made this way.
I ended up getting the higher quality, Japanese-made induction fuzzy rice cooker by Zojirushi which has a stainless steel detachable inner lid. Which I love! It makes the absolute best rice (brown and white) that I've ever had! It was pricy, but I think worth it as a long term cooking and health investment.
Bottom line -- if having your rice cook with direct aluminum contact is a concern for you, just remember -
Zojirushi Japanese-made fuzzy logic INDUCTION rice cookers GOOD...
Zojirushi Chinese-made fuzzy logic NON-INDUCTION rice cookers BAD!
Why sooo long June 5, 2008 C. Austin (Portland, OR) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I overall like the product. Easy to use, more options and retractable cord. But, it takes much longer to cook rice than my previous basic Jojirushi. I used to be able to start preparing my stir fry meat and veggies and then plug in the rice cooker. This one takes more planning ahead. However, the rice is better. Perhaps excellent rice takes longer to cook.
Was not sure I needed a stand alone rice cooker but . . . May 17, 2008 Mr. Lynn E. Bailey (Round Rock, TX United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was not sure if I really needed a stand alone cooker for rice but once you try one of these, you quickly understand the value.
If you are looking for a rice cooker for sushi, this one does the trick. In addition it does a good job with that elusive brown rice as well. One thing that I am now currently enjoying is the use of this cooker to cook rice congee (gruel). If you are one to enjoy oatmeal this is a good and equally healthy substitute. Note that this particular cooker is actually manufactured in China rather than Japan. However I have not seen any quality problems to date.
One thing is to be sure that you wipe the steamer trap lid after every use. If you do not you will quickly get a rust colour stain on the top of your cooker. This particular requirement is why the four stars as opposed to five.
