Can be used in a round-bottom wok or set on top rim of a sauce pot above boiling water. Designed with two tiers for steaming veggies, meats, or pre-cooked grains all at the same time. This is better than any other steamer you can buy. The bamboo absorbs the moisture unlike plastic and stainless steel appliances which results in superior steaming. I can't believe that I used a rival plastic steamer all these years after using this item. Sure it doesn't have a shut off timer and all the bells and whistles of the modern units, but my stove has a timer and thats all I need. Plastic leaching can't be healthy for you anyway.
