Worked great for a month, but... December 1, 2008 R. Lee (Mill Valley, CA USA) This oven made some great toast. Yes, I can still remember those days... but, like another reviewer said, the door quit staying closed. After a few weeks of irritation, I removed a screw from the device that keeps it open. No more problem and more great toast. Then after about a year of moderate use, the dang thing just up and decided that it, not me would decide what temperature to cook things at when baking (and it tended to like about 500 degrees. There are not many recipes that call for 500 degrees, especially for a toaster oven. Toast was a similar random process, but the toaster liked both undercooking and overcooking.
One important piece of advice for those seeking a toaster/oven- toasters make toast faster than toaster ovens, and this toaster oven makes toast slower than other toaster ovens because it's pretty large (for a toaster oven).
Should a $100 device last longer than a year? I guess it depends on whether you ask an appliance manufacturer or a consumer.
great product November 16, 2008 N. McKnight (Tampa, FL USA) It is a great toaster oven. Works extremely well. Seems to be high quality. It definetly is better than heating up the house with the regular oven. I would highly recommend this toaster oven.
Great for the first year, now need to replace November 16, 2008 A. Bowes (Milwaukee, WI) This toaster oven was great for the first year or so. Then we started having occasional problems with the door not staying shut. Now, after 3 years, the door never stays shut and the toaster oven tends to burn most things. We are ready to replace it! I thought that a brand like Cuisinart would make a long-lasting appliance, guess I was wrong!
BROKEN DOOR October 2, 2008 R from NY (New York) I liked this toaster oven a lot, until the door broke (fell apart). Here are the issues: a) the right side came out from the main unit, and b) the left side - the glass detached from the metal slot it is in (not sure if i described that correctly) BUT BOTTOM LINE IS THE DOOR is BROKEN. I put the door back on, on both sides and the door wont close all the way.
Caveat emptor! September 30, 2008 Bix (San Jose) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This toaster oven has two negatives--one is tolerable, the other is not.
The crumb tray must be removed from the rear of the oven. That is awkward and many competitive manufacturers offer a front-loading crumb tray.
After a few months of use the oven door would not close tightly allowing heat to escape. I will not tolerate such a malfunction in a toaster oven that I own.
I discarded the oven and purchased a new oven from a different manufacturer. The new oven is a convection oven (the TOB-50 is not)and cost less than the faulty-functioning Cuisinart.
The internet is replete with numerous door complaints on this model. It was interesting to note that one unhappy buyer actually took the oven apart and found the door mechanism unfixable. I called a local small appliance repair facility and was told that Cuisinart, unlike other manufacturers, will not sell any replacement repair parts for its products.
The reviews indicate that some angry buyers went to the bother and cost of obtaining replacement ovens from Cuisinart only to discover the replacement units had the same defect. When I called the Cuisinart customer relations office I was told: (1) I should take the oven back to the store that sold it to me and (2) there have been absolutely no design changes to the door apparatus during the course of the production runs. Apparently some buyers were convinced to seek a replacement oven when they were told the door problem had been fixed.
Caveat emptor!
