Excellent Product, no complaints at all January 6, 2009 D. David (Garland TX) This unit also comes in all-Stainless color as newer model 6059 at Costco for $59. They even had $10 off, so I paid $50 and claim it's better in features than Cuisinart models at 2X the price.
So keeping it plain & simple, here is why I am 200% satisfied:
1) Has an oven light which more expensive models don't have. 2) Looks like 15% larger oven capacity than Cuisinart CTO-350PC. 3) Crumb tray slides out from the FRONT vs. the back. 4) Oven timer not only sounds but turns OFF the oven ! Gee what a nice invention. Maybe Oster should file a patent on that!
Problem is the other similar brands like Cuisinart will only sound an alarm when oven timer goes off and the oven will keep going till the 4-hour safety limit is up. However the toaster time does shut off oven in all models/brands.
I complained to Cuisinart and they said it's like in the old days when you had a small timer that goes ding-dong to remind you to shut off the oven.
But I totally disagree since we are not in the 1950's ding dong any more. We have simple technology to turn off the over at the end of the timer, which I like as you get more free heating after burner is off... like like with electric stove top.
Furthermore, if timer goes off while I'm sitting on the toilet, I can rest assured that my oven has turned off and take my time to walk over to the oven.
So consider all you get for $59 at Costco for the newer model, although it's identical in all respects to this 6058 except for keypad being stainless color vs. black as in this model 6058.
Dead in 6 months (made in China) December 8, 2008 C. B. Hunter (Nashville, TN) It made good toast, but was slow (over five minutes for medium). After six months of light use, the bottom burners completely stopped working. The model 6058 felt solid and looked nice. It's a real shame the electronics are shoddy.
The price is low enough that having it repaired feels silly, but high enough I feel robbed by the short life. I decided it must be an oddball lemon, and bought another Oster (different model) and it was a complete pile of junk (I'll review the model 6078 separately). I had mistakenly thought Oster was made in the USA or Canada, but printed on the back: "MADE IN CHINA". This explains a lot.
One last complaint: We burned ourselves repeatedly on this thing. There are design clues that lead a body to incorrectly think "cool to the touch", but instead bring blisters.
"It's dead Jim" November 22, 2008 Todd M. Covey (San Carlos, CA) Today my Oster died. It was 8 months old. It caught fire internally when I tried to heat up some toquitos. The flames were coming near where the chord entered the chassie. I think it committed suicide with the intention of taking me and my family with it. I wish I could say it lived a good life...but alas I cannot. The controls were so frustating and non-intuitive. Making toast took twice as long as it should have. It's default setting completely burns the toast. I'm happy it died. RIP.
Best toaster oven I have ever had October 6, 2008 Laura (Austin) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We bought this great convection toaster oven about ten months ago for $60. It gets daily usage for toast, heating food, and cooking food, all with excellent results. Even pizza and baking cookies! One tip for the best results is to always be mindful of the position of the rack. For instance, for toast always be sure the rack is positioned so that the bread is the same distance between the top and bottom elements. For pizza I find moving it up a notch is better.
This unit makes the most evenly toasted toast that I've experienced in a toaster oven. And the electronic button for selecting doneness is pretty accurate.
I agree with other reviewers that the controls could have been made more user friendly, but after using it for a couple of weeks I got used to all of the settings and best temperatures to use, and now it's second nature. One thing that I still have a problem with, however, is that you have to press off twice to turn the oven off, just once puts it on pause. My husband has accidentally left it on a couple of times, but it will go off when the timer runs out.
The only other negative is that when you pull something out to reposition food, etc. the tray kind of collapses down unexpectedly so if you're not careful you can get burned, or your food can come flying out at you.
All in all this is a great oven for all of the purposes it's meant for. If it weren't for the couple of things I mentioned I would give it five stars.
Died in 3 yrs. October 5, 2008 Mark D. Goodley (So Cal.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My wife and I really loved our SS unit... just big enough to meet most all of our needs without heating up the big oven... but... it DIED, DEAD, after only 3yrs... the electronics just smoked one day without warning or reason... our last Toaster oven lasted over 15...!!! very disappointed and will be looking to another brand for replacement...
